Let’s go Sandboarding!
If you are looking for some adrenaline rush this fall and want to experiment something different on your next camping adventure, then you should try sandboarding!
What Is Sandboarding?
Sandboarding and snowboarding are not that different, the only thing that changes is the surface. Just as the name depicts it, snowboarding is practiced on snow while sandboarding is practiced on sand. And in Colorado we have a great place to practice this exciting sport: we are talking about the Great Sand Dunes National Park.
Something very important to consider is that Sandboards are not the same as Snowboards. Sandboards are made mostly of Formica or laminex in the base, causing it to be harder than snowboards. During dry times like summer, the sand may get too soft for a snowboard to slide in the sand, but after recent rain or snow, a snowboard should work too.
Sandboarding As A Professional Sport
The Sandboarding World Championship -or SWC- takes place annually at Hirschau Germany. As a professional sport it is very recent, but Sandboarding gets more and more popular every day. Josh Tenage has won the SWC four times, being the athlete that has won the most titles.
