Great Smoky Mountains National Park, Tennessee and North Carolina

Designated as an International Biosphere Reserve due to its unique natural resources, the Great Smoky Mountains National National Park is one of the most diverse parks in the world. It has over 800 square miles of territory, located in the Appalachian Mountains and divided between Tennessee and North Carolina.

The Smoky Mountains National Park is the most visited park in the United States and its mountains are among the oldest in the world, with more than 300 million years of age. Over 17,000 species have been documented, but according to scientific studies, an additional 30,000 to 80,000 species may live there.

This National Park is home to an estimated 1,500 bears and 100 species of native trees. For hiking lovers, the Smoky Mountains offer more than 800-miles of hiking trails.

There are 10 developed campgrounds, well maintained by the National Park Service.
