Bassmaster Open on the Red River LA 2013 with Mitch Kistner and his Phoenix Pop Up Camper

Hi Rob & Cari!
I got back from Louisiana on Sunday. I still think I’m recovering from the drive and long week of fishing!

I met my friend Patrick Spencer in Tucson April 18th and we hit the road running! With 2 boats in tow to the Red River, we were both excited to get there. So much so, that we drove a straight 20 hours. We finally made a stop in Lindale, TX, just east of Dallas, to sleep for a few hours in the camper. It was so great to be able to crawl into a full sized bed at a moments notice!

Kistner Partners with Phoenix Pop Up Campers!

Kistner Partners with Phoenix Pop Up Campers!

Former collegiate angler and founder of the Arizona State University Bass Fishing team, Mitch Kistner, will be partnering with Denver based company, Phoenix Pop Up Campers.

Kistner will be competing in the 2013 Bassmaster Central Opens with his lodging strapped to his truck. Having traveled thousands of miles to and from Arizona to the southern United States each season, Kistner knows the importance of comfortable and convenient accommodations while on the road.

“I am so excited to be partnering with Phoenix Pop Ups. Having a custom built pop up camper with all the amenities of home on the road with me, will give me one less thing to worry about while competing. I can simply pull over, grab a nap, and continue on to the event. Not to mention, it will save me hundreds of dollars each tournament in hotel costs alone,” Kistner stated. “For months I have been communicating with Rob & Cari (the owners of Phoenix Pop Ups) and they have been extremely helpful. They have made the whole process effortless. Knowing that the people behind the company are such great people and share the same love of the outdoors as I do, truly makes this partnership special…and I will always have a lakeside view!” Kistner points out.

Cari Rowe, Co Owner of Phoenix Pop Ups, had this to say about the new relationship, ” Rob and I are very excited to have partnered up with Bassmaster Open’s angler Mitch Kistner! Mitch is the quintessential customer. He will be able to utilize his new “Home Away from Home” for relaxing and entertaining after long days of being out on the water doing what he enjoys! We are looking forward to a long relationship with Mitch and wish him luck this up coming tournament season!”

The 2013 Bassmaster Central Opens has stops in Louisiana, Oklahoma, and Mississippi.

Phoenix Pop Up Campers is located in Commerce City, Colorado, just outside of Denver. They specialize in custom built, light weight pop up campers for many types of vehicles. Dry, the campers only weigh 1,000-1,500 lbs.

Another Phoenix Pop Up Truck camper for a Chevy Avalanche

This camper went out a couple of weeks ago to this great family of four. Here is what they had to say:

“Hello Cari – So far we have had 2 nights in the camper and everything has worked great. I bet Rob didn’t know he was designing a slide for 2 little boys on the passenger side of the truck camper. But it took Tanner and Casey no time to enjoy that feature and yeah I use it too. I am very glad I went for my inverter, charge controller, and solar system installed. We have to used the heater the last 2 nights. Takes 1 minute of running to heat the entire camper and truck up for the night.

Last night we stopped in north platte and found the cody campground. We decided in 10 minutes we are staying here if we go through north platte again. 5 bucks to camp. water hookups. A free zoo with plenty of animals to feed. I liked seeing buffalo and feeding the giant male elk. Told the donkey I loved him in shrek. They also have an amusement park with .50 cent rides and a restaurant with strawberry soft serve ice cream. Right now we have lots of geese and a river in our backyard. Tanner and Casey are playing with lego cars in that backyard. It will be hard to top this camping spot. But I will continue to look. Before we left Denver one of our stops for the boys was the lego store. The set Tanner got was a lego camper. Gee wonder why. I made breakfast yesterday and melinda today. So much cheaper travelling with your own hotel and restaurant with gas at 3.50 plus. We went to the rockies game in Denver. My 12th major league stadium now. Great stadium, great area for the boys, really friendly people, sat next to a guy from sioux city also in town for the weekend. But horrible team. No wonder your hockey fans. Go Gophers!”

Everyday we are asked if trucks need air bags, springs or Timbren suspension kits, when adding the weight of a camper to their truck. There is no clear cut answer. This article can help with answering some of those questions.

“Hi Rob and Cari, We installed the camper into our 1942 Dodge military 4X4 today. Wendy was biting her nails about the fit. But everything fit perfect!  It even has a little wiggle room. We are very pleased. We are just now getting to know the camper and how to get in and out with two little people.  It will be great. Attached are a couple photos. We’ll send some more as we get it out and use it. I’ll try and get some photo’s with better background soon. Thanks for all you help. What a fun project.” – Jeff and Wendy
