Chris Cole and Ann Pennce from Campa USA, the manufacturers of Campa Trailers, came to us to build them a camper for a Unimog 500 with a custom built and designed (by Chris himself) flatbed. This camper is 10′, 8′ wide and has 6′ of hard side walls with an additional 23″ in soft sides in the pop up.
The roof is lifted with an electric lift due to the height of the hard side walls. The whole camper has a very industrial look with the interior walls being made with the same fiberglass filon as the exterior throughout.
The interior was a combination of ours and Chris’s work and craftsmanship. We provided the dinette, the bath area and toilet, electrical and gas prep, and an aluminum shelving unit for Chris to have a place for his stainless countertop with sink and stove, fridge and other custom supplies.
The flatbed was designed with a generator – the fresh, grey and black tanks already installed.
This has been a wonderful experience working with Chris in getting this camper to come alive!
Chris and Ann will be at the Overland Expo with their camper this coming weekend, May 17-19, at Mormon Lake just outside of Flagstaff, AZ.
We are excited as this is a show we will also be at with the Bronco Bronco, and joining us in our booth will be Mitch Kistner with his full size long bed. Larry Wittman will also be there with his ’78 Chevy short bed with a Custom Phoenix Pop Up, and we are expecting a few others as well!
Our good friend and customer Larry Wittman has taken his “decked out” ’78 Chevy truck with one of our Custom Pop Up Truck Campers on many trips over the last few years that he has had it. This year’s trip was through the Mojave Rd and Death Valley. You can get detailed information on his trip by following the links below!
Our campers love the spring snow!
High gas prices do not have to be an issue for Pop Up Campers. If are looking to reduce your carbon footprint, this is the “greenest” camper on the market. Perfect for those cross county bike trips – whenever you get tired from hauling your camper, pull over for a nap!

“Hi Rob and Cari, We installed the camper into our 1942 Dodge military 4X4 today. Wendy was biting her nails about the fit. But everything fit perfect! It even has a little wiggle room. We are very pleased. We are just now getting to know the camper and how to get in and out with two little people. It will be great. Attached are a couple photos. We’ll send some more as we get it out and use it. I’ll try and get some photo’s with better background soon. Thanks for all you help. What a fun project.” – Jeff and Wendy
