Sand dune skiing

Explore Colorado’s Backyard Wonders in Your Phoenix Pop Up

Don’t pack those skis just yet

Sign to the Great Sand Dunes National Park

We all love to see the sun at the end of a long cold winter, but for those winter sportsmen out there, this also means goodbye to your skis and snowboards for a couple of seasons. Colorado is known to be “ski country”, but instead of getting all bundled up again and taking your skis to the resorts, why not pack up you Phoenix Pop Up for a different type of ski adventure: sand skiing at the Great Sand Dunes of Colorado.

Natural wonders right in your own “backyard”

Chocolatey Sand Dunes in Colorado

We sometimes forget what is right here in our own “back yard”. There are so many places to explore, and with your Phoenix Pop Up, the sky is the limit. That is why we sometimes forget to experience the things that are right in front of us, thinking that “we can always go to the Dunes”. And then time passes you by, and you never went. With you Phoenix Pop Up camper “Camp Ready” at pick up, why not take it for a spin and check out one of the great wonders of this country that also just happens to right here in Colorado. You will be completely awed by the size of the Great Sand Dunes. It may not hit you as quickly as the incredible shock of seeing the Grand Canyon for the first time. The Great Sand Dunes are said to hit you almost in slow motion because the majestic 13,000-foot peaks of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains will dwarf the size of the sand dunes, but once you reach the foot of the dunes, you will suddenly be hit by their grandeur. These dunes will reach peaks of 750feet and will expand for miles and miles in what seems like an ocean of sand, billowing for as far as the eye can see. It is a sight to be experienced at least once in your life, but for some reason, this remains one of the least visited parks in the country and is often overlooked when heading out on new adventures.

Something for everyone

Skiing the great dunes of coloradoOur Pop Up Campers are custom made to fit your vehicle, so wherever you want to go, that’s where your camper will be. When visiting the Great Sand Dunes, why not put your vehicle and your pop up to the test and take the primitive off road Medano Pass Primitive Trail instead of staying at the campground near the visitor’s center. Here you will cross the Medano river up to 9 times of your way to the pass, and drive through thick soft sand. You will reach a “point of no return” and sure enough, from here there is only one way to go and no way to turn around. Once you get to the parking area at the end of the trail, you will be able to enjoy sand skiing and sledding for the whole family on a 300ft sand dunes. This is a great trip to enjoy a little off road camping, skiing and sledding without all the winter clothes and wet, freezing snow.

Build Your Pop Up

Three Phoenix Pop Ups

Each camper is unique. If you are planning on taking the whole family, we recommend going with our largest floor plan, the PULSE SC. It comes complete with a full kitchen, water system with sink and electric pump, a seating area that makes for a second bed for the kids, restroom and a shower complete with a hot water system. This will also be great for the Sand Dunes as all of the camping there; even back at the visitor’s center is “dry camping” with no water, electric or sewage hookups. This is perfect for the Phoenix Pop Up camper that is designed to fit your needs, and can be made to be completely self-sufficient so that you can really go anywhere. We have several popular features that you can choose from, if you really want to go all the way. Like a solar powered electric system, a hot water system and many more great features that can take your next camping adventure to the next level. Call us today, and let us know how we can make your next great adventure “Pop”.
